Rivian delivers more than 50,000 EVs in 2024

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- U.S. electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Rivian said on Friday that the company delivered 51,579 electric vehicles in 2024, more than triple the number it shipped to customers the previous year.

The California-based company announced a plan to cut 10 percent of its workforce in February 2024. One month later, it revealed the R2 SUV. In May, Rivian started rolling out revamped versions of the R1S and the R1T pickup truck.

The company announced a joint venture with Volkswagen Group in June. The German giant pledged to invest 5 billion U.S. dollars into the collaboration. The deal officially closed in November and grew to 5.8 billion dollars.

Rivian finished the year 2024 by securing a 6.6 billion dollar loan commitment from the Joe Biden administration to help build a factory in the U.S. state of Georgia.
