QuickCheck: Is there a famous rock that looks just like Snoopy from Peanuts?

We’ve all seen man-made wonders like Mount Rushmore. Now imagine a rock in the desert, entirely natural, uncarved, shaped purely by nature, that looks like a beloved cartoon character.

Visitors swear it resembles Snoopy lying on his back, straight out of the Peanuts comics.

Could such a whimsical rock really exist?

VERDICT:

TRUE

At first glance, it may look like a giant block of weird shapes, but this real rock formation has been quietly amusing visitors for years.

Known as Snoopy Rock, the natural formation is located in Sedona, Arizona, a region famous for its red sandstone cliffs and dramatic landscapes.

When viewed from the right angle, the rock’s profile closely resembles Snoopy lying on his back, complete with a rounded nose, floppy ears and a relaxed pose that fans of the Peanuts comic strip instantly recognise.

The resemblance isn’t intentional, of course. Snoopy Rock was shaped over millions of years by erosion, wind and weather, long before Charles Schulz ever created the beloved cartoon dog.

But its uncanny likeness has made it one of Sedona’s most talked-about natural landmarks, especially on social media.

What makes Snoopy Rock even more interesting is that it doesn’t require a long hike to see.

Many visitors can spot it from roadside viewpoints or nearby trails, making it one of the most accessible “look-alike” rock formations in the area.

Although Snoopy Rock isn’t officially named on all maps, it has become widely known through travel guides, photography blogs and word of mouth.

Its popularity shows how the human brain naturally looks for familiar shapes and faces, a phenomenon known as pareidolia, especially in nature.
