QuickCheck: Will Earth lose gravity for seven seconds on Aug 12?

A VIRAL video has been making the rounds on social media, claiming that our planet will experience a terrifying phenomenon next month.

The video alleges that Earth will lose gravity for seven seconds on Aug 12, potentially causing millions of deaths, and that NASA has been secretly preparing for this event under the alleged multibillion-dollar Project Anchor.

But is there any truth to this alarming claim?

Verdict:

FALSE

The viral video claiming Earth will lose gravity for seven seconds on Aug 12 is completely false.

The clip also alleged that the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) was making secret preparations under Project Anchor, which supposedly costs billions of dollars.

According to the conspiracy theory, waves emitted from two black holes would cause this condition, and the United States-based space agency had known about it for more than 12 years and had prepared special bunkers for world leaders and important individuals.

It also estimated that approximately 40 million to 60 million deaths could occur during that brief period.

NASA has denied the baseless claim and explained that Earth's gravity depends on its mass and cannot simply disappear.

Experts also confirmed that the only astronomical event on that date is a total solar eclipse that can be seen from parts of Europe and the Arctic.

The spread of this false information has drawn various reactions from netizens.

Some provided explanations to clear up the confusion amongst other social media users, clarifying that gravity does not depend on cosmic events such as black hole collisions.
