QuickCheck: Is there a plan to build a railway line in the Cameron Highlands?

NOWADAYS, Cameron Highlands is better known for its heavy holiday traffic than for its cold weather and agriculture.

It was no surprise when word spread that a proposal to build a railway to alleviate traffic in this popular vacation destination was under consideration. Experts and NGOs have also responded to the proposed plan.

However, is there such a proposal?

Verdict:

False

Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said that so far, his party has not received any official proposal from any party regarding the project.

"If it can provide convenience (to the public) and improve the infrastructure there, we will consider it," he said in a press conference after the Presentation Ceremony of the Pahang Makmur Initiative (IM) to the West Pahang Zone Religious Cluster (Mosques and Surau for Friday Prayer) of Pahang State in 2025, at a hall here on Saturday (Dec 27).

Recently, rumours have circulated about a proposal to build a railway line in the Cameron Highlands, linking Tanah Rata, Brinchang, and Blue Valley, which is expected to address critical road congestion in the leading tourist destination.
