It is not just humans whose lives are impacted by severe weather and natural disasters.
Animals like crocodiles are often displaced, swept from their natural habitats into areas where they do not belong.
Is it true that a crocodile was sighted on a road near Duyong in Melaka following heavy rain?
Verdict:
True
According to the Melaka Fire and Rescue Department, a crocodile emerged onto a road near Sungai Perigi Hang Tuah in Duyong after a downpour, prompting an emergency response.
The department's public relations officer Deputy Fire Superintendent Mohd Hafidzatullah Rashid said they received a report on the incident on Sunday (November 23) night, after members of the public spotted the reptile close to a residential route.
“A Fire Rescue Operations team led by Senior Fire Officer Khairul Naim Abu Kasim arrived at the location five minutes later and found the crocodile on the road near the riverbank.
“Firefighters carried out safety control measures and managed to drive the reptile back into the river to prevent any danger to the public,” he said on Monday (November 24).
The controlled operation began at 10.05pm and concluded two minutes later with no injuries or property damage.
Meanwhile, Duyong assemblyman Datuk Mohd Noor Helmy Abdul Halem reminded residents to remain cautious after the sighting.
In a Facebook post, he said the reptile was likely displaced by rising water levels and confirmed that it had successfully been driven back into the river.
