QuickCheck: Is it true that JPJ is offering driving licences without tests?

FOR most people, driving or riding a motorcycle can be a necessity, especially if they live or work in areas with inadequate public transportation services.

Recently, advertisements have gone viral on social media claiming that free licences are being given out without the need to go through driving tests.

Is it true that you can get a Malaysian driving licence for free, without having to go through the testing procedure?

VERDICT:

FALSE

In a Facebook post, the Road Transport Department warned Internet users to beware of the spread of fake information and advertisements offering driving licences using images of VIPs.

"JPJ has received complaints of fake advertisements for free driving licences without the need for testing on TikTok.

"These ads misuse JPJ's official name and images of VIPs to gain the confidence of the public.

"JPJ wants to emphasise that the advertisement and the TikTok account are fake," it said in the post.

JPJ also advised the public not to be easily deceived by promotion through fake ads or unauthorised accounts to avoid any confusion and loss.

"Those in doubt are advised to contact JPJ via its official channels for more information or if they have any other queries," the post read.

JPJ also said official complaints can be made via its official complaints portal at https://jpj.spab.gov.my/
