Verdict:
TRUE
Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said police have detained a local man after he was recorded in a viral video obstructing a civil servant on duty at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex in Johor Baru.
He said the video showed the man shouting at a People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) member at the bus terminal inside the complex.
“I confirm that the incident took place. On Tuesday (Nov 4), a police report was lodged at 11.13am by a 31-year-old security assistant.
“In the report, the complainant stated that the incident occurred following a misunderstanding between the on-duty Rela personnel and the suspect,” he said on Thursday (Nov 6).
ACP Raub said the complainant had intervened to calm the situation, but the suspect brushed against his left shoulder during the confrontation. No injuries were reported.
“Following the report, police managed to identify and arrest the 31-year-old suspect on Wednesday (Nov 5). A urine test showed he was negative for drugs, but checks revealed that he has one prior criminal record,” he added.
ACP Raub said the suspect will be brought to the magistrate’s court here later today for a remand application to assist investigations under Section 186 of the Penal Code.
