QuickCheck: Did two people get covered in red paint in a JB salon?

VIDEOS and images of houses and cars strewn with red paint often go viral on social media, but usually the only humans involved are the ones doing the throwing.

However, a recent post making the rounds of social media alleges that a hairdresser and a customer at a salon in Johor Baru were covered in red paint after two men rushed into the premises and threw bags of red paint inside.

Did this incident really happen?

VERDICT:

True

Johor Baru North OCPD Asst Comm Balveer Singh confirmed the incident, saying that police had received a report from the hairdresser at around 1.30pm on Saturday (Oct 11).

"Initial investigations found that the incident occurred on the same day at about 11.50am, when two male suspects suddenly entered the salon and threw plastic bags filled with red paint into the shop.

“The paint splashed onto the furniture and the hairdresser and a customer who was also in the salon at the time,” he said in a statement Sunday (Oct 12).

ACP Balveer said no injuries were reported, but the estimated losses amounted to RM15,000.

The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief and causing damage worth RM25 or more.

The offence carries a jail term of one to five years, a fine, or both upon conviction.

Earlier, a post made rounds on social media, showing photos of a man with red paint on his hair, ears, neck and back, along with images of the paint-splashed salon.

ACP Balveer also urged anyone with information about the case to contact the Johor Baru North district police headquarters at 07-556 3122.
