QuickCheck: Will there be road closures in KL on Oct 4 and 5?


KUALA LUMPUR: Heading into the city centre may seem like a great way to spend the weekend.

However, word is going around that major road closures will take place soon.

Is there any truth to this?

According to Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus, several major roads in the capital will be closed and diverted in stages in conjunction with the organisation of two events this weekend, namely the Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon (KLSCM) 2025 and the conclusion of the Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) 2025 cycling race.

The KLSCM 2025 is set to take place on Oct 4 and 5 on roads around the city centre, involving about 40,000 participants, including 3,300 from abroad.

According to Fadil, the 5km and 10km runs will start at 5.30am on Oct 4 with road closures from 5am to 10am, while the 21km and 42km runs will begin at 3.30am on Oct 5 with road closures in stages from 3am to 10am.

Among the roads to close on Oct 4 are Jalan Raja Dataran Merdeka, Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Dang Wangi, Jalan Ampang towards the city centre, Jalan P. Ramlee and Jalan Kuching towards Bulatan Dato Onn.

For Oct 5, the roads to close include Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Bukit Bintang, Jalan Raja Chulan, Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Ampang, Akleh Highway, Duke Highway and several other main roads around the city centre.

The conclusion of the final stage of the LTdL 2025 bicycle race will be around 3pm on Oct 5, with the finishing line located in front of KLCC on Jalan Ampang.
