QuickCheck: Is it true that JPJ is offering free driving licence applications?

For most people, especially those who live or work in areas with inadequate public transportation services, having a driving licence is a necessity.

Recently, advertisements for free driving licence applications have gone viral on social media. They appear to use photos from official events of the Transport Ministry and the Road Transport Department (JPJ).

It seems too good to be true. So, is the offer legitimate?

Is JPJ offering free driving licence applications?

Verdict:

FALSE

In a social media post, JPJ explained that it has found several social media accounts advertising free driving licence applications that do not comply with the stipulated conditions and are therefore not legally valid.

“To apply for a legal driving licence, contact the nearest driving institute recognised by JPJ. Make sure your driving licence is legal and registered,” it wrote in the post.

The JPJ also reminds the public not to be deceived, not to share or spread unverified information, and not to get involved in any dubious matters regarding driving licence ownership.
