QuickCheck: Are Penang police pursuing a bra burglar?


IN a curious twist of events, a new kind of thief has emerged in Penang.

Recently, a video was uploaded to social media and in it, a man in a security uniform can be seen stealing – and what he appears to be taking is far more intimate than cash or jewels.

It has been claimed that the Penang police are now hunting down a bra burglar.

Is this true?

Police in George Town are actively searching for a man involved in the theft of women's undergarments after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

The short video shows a man dressed in a security uniform leaning against the wall by the side of an apartment unit before climbing up onto the wall and grabbing two undergarments hanging inside the unit's balcony, behind a grille.

He then leaps off the side of the wall and walks off along the corridor.

The video, recorded at an apartment near Jalan Dr Wu Lien Teh, caught the attention of the authorities on Wednesday (May 28).

Northeast OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rozak Muhammad said they came across the viral video on Wednesday morning.

"We then confirmed that a report was lodged on Friday (May 23) by a 64-year-old man about the incident.

The theft occurred around 4.24am on the same day, when two undergarments (bras) belonging to the man's daughter were stolen by an unidentified individual.

Both pairs of undergarments were hanging on a balcony facing the corridor.

On the investigation, ACP Abdul Rozak said that the police are working to identify and locate the suspect involved and added that the case is being investigated as a theft.

He urged anyone who has any information about the case to come forward and assist in the investigation by contacting investigating officer Nabil Fikri Abd Rahman at 016-4446590.
