Indonesian news portal, Kompas reported that the incident took place on the unfinished Krian-Gresik toll road in Gresik, near Surabaya in Indonesia. According to local authorities, the driver was following Google Maps, which led him onto the incomplete section of the Krian-Legundi-Bunder-Manyar (KLBM) toll road.
The accident happened on Saturday (April 5) at around 10pm local time.
Viral CCTV footage from the Gresik Transportation Agency shows the car flying off the left side of the road and crashing into a barrier.
The footage captures the bustling scene on Dr Wahidin Sudirohusodo Road in Kebomas, Gresik, at 9.53pm, moments before the car plunged from the toll road above.
The luxury car's driver, Moch. Rudie Herru Komandono, 61, and his passenger, Endang Sri Wahyuni, 47, both from Surabaya, survived the crash.
Ipda Aswoko, Head of the Traffic Law Enforcement Unit at the Gresik Police, explained that the driver admitted to following Google Maps, which directed him to the unfinished toll road.
"The victims only sustained minor injuries and are being treated," Aswoko added, detailing the victims' condition following the accident.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of being aware of road conditions, especially when relying on digital navigation tools.
