QuickCheck: Do those who look younger live longer?

Have you ever seen people like the above, who look like they have been sipping from the fountain of youth, defying the laws of aging?

These here are celebrities, so it may be their very expensive skincare routines, or they’re “just born with it,” but some people like them, just don’t seem to age.

Scientists have claimed that how young one looks could predict the length of their life.

Is this true or is it just another wrinkly claim to scare whatever life that is left in us away?

Verdict:

(KIND OF)

Unfortunately, it is, kind of. There is a longer explanation to what this means, so, please, do read on… if you want to, of course.

A significant study often cited in this context is the 2009 research where Danish scientists studied a group of twins to gauge whether the twin who looked younger would outlive their older-looking sibling.

The research was conducted among 1,826 twins in Denmark aged 70 or older.

The findings were that the twin who appeared younger was often more likely to live longer.

Wrinkles, gray hair and other skin changes are a natural progression of age. However, they are partially influenced by genetic factors and lifestyle choices.

Since looking younger starts from the inside out, not the outside in, lifestyle choices play a crucial role in this equation.

For instance, healthier skin can reflect good cardiovascular health or lower levels of stress, both of which are linked to longevity.

Habits such as maintaining a balanced diet, regular physical activity and avoiding harmful behaviors like smoking or consuming too much alcohol can improve one's appearance and, by extension, one’s health, potentially contributing to a longer life.

While genetics certainly influence how quickly one ages visually, environmental factors and personal choices have a substantial impact.

While looking younger can be a hint that you are on a healthier path, it is not a guarantee of a longer lifespan.

The moral of the story: Take good care of your body and love yourself just the way you are.
