Police have arrested two local male youths after a dramatic high-speed car chase through the streets of Muar following their refusal to stop during a traffic operation.
Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the incident occurred at around 9am on Wednesday (March 12) when a team from the Muar police traffic investigation and enforcement division attempted to stop a car along Jalan Pintasan Muar.
"However, the two suspects, aged 34 and 24, ignored police orders and accelerated in an attempt to evade capture.
Police then pursued the vehicle for approximately seven kilometres, repeatedly instructing the suspects to pull over," he said on Thursday (March 13).
ACP Raiz Mukhliz added the chase ended in a back alley along Jalan Selasih at Taman Selasih in Sungai Abong where police successfully intercepted the car and apprehended both suspects.
He also said that a video of the chase has since gone viral on a social media platform.
ACP Raiz Mukhliz said both suspects tested positive for methamphetamine while further checks revealed that both individuals had prior criminal records related to drug offences.
"Both suspects have been taken to Muar police district headquarters for further investigations and would be brought to Muar Magistrate Court for a remand application today (Thursday)," he added.
ACP Raiz Mukhliz said the case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code, Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
He urged road users to comply with instructions from law enforcement officers, emphasising that failure to do so not only endangers the individuals involved but also puts other motorists at risk.
