WHEN picturing a seafood feast, most imagine a bustling market or a visit to a seaside fishmonger. But what if fresh seafood suddenly appeared on a road instead? With the unpredictability of weather and other factors influencing seafood supply, such tales of abundance might seem far-fetched. Did such an incident where thousands of fish and prawns ended up scattered over a road in Johor?
Verdict:
TRUE
A lorry carrying a load of fish and prawns overturned after being involved in an accident on Jalan Kota Tinggi in Johor, before the Felda Mawai junction on Wednesday (Jan 22) morning.
According to Sinar Harian, the incident resulted in thousands of fish and prawns scattered along the roadside.
People who saw the accident were seen taking advantage of the situation by picking up the fish and prawns which lined the side of the road.
Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Yusof Othman said all the seafood had been “scooped” up by the time police arrived at the scene.
"The accident, which took place at 9.20am, involved two cars and a lorry.
"The accident is believed to have been caused by a car hitting the back of another car heading from Johor Baru to Mersing.
"As a result, the second car entered the opposite lane and collided with a lorry before overturning onto the left shoulder of the road," he said to Sinar Harian.
He said no one was injured in the incident, adding that summonses were issued to those involved in the crash.
Earlier a 31-second video went viral showing people picking up shrimp and fish off a road.
