QuickCheck: Did a motorcyclist get into a police chase in Petaling Jaya?


WHEN it comes to the long arm of the law, there will be those who will run at the sight of the men in blue.

As such instances are generally rare, news tends to go viral whenever it is claimed that someone ran from the police.

Recently, a claim that a motorcyclist ran from a police patrol in Petaling Jaya went viral. Is this true?

VERDICT:

TRUE

This was confirmed in a statement by Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Shahrulnizam Ja'afar, who said that this incident happened at about 1.30am on Oct 27.

He said that a patrol unit conducting crime prevention rounds in the Dataran Bandar Utama area spotted a man riding a motorcycle who ran a red light.

"Police officers attempted to stop the motorcyclist but were unsuccessful as the suspect refused to cooperate and fled into Jalan Masjid heading towards Pekan Kayu Ara," added ACP Shahrulnizam.

He said that the suspect disappeared, abandoning the motorcycle near the riverbank along with a red helmet.

"The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code, and efforts to locate the suspect are actively underway," he added.
