QuickCheck: Was a man accidentally killed in Kedah in a botched burglary?


BEING burgled would be an unpleasant shock to anyone, and when surprised in such a way many would react on instinct and impulse - and this can have fatal consequences.

It was claimed online recently that a man was killed in a botched burglary in Kedah when the would-be victim rammed their car into his motorcycle as he was trying to flee.

Is this true?

VERDICT:

TRUE

This was confirmed in a statement by the Kota Setar police, saying that the incident took place at about 6.30am near the Kuala Kedah pharmacy when the victim was approached by three men riding two motorcycles

In the statement issued on Tuesday (March 19), Kota Setar OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Shukri Mat Akhir said that the victim was startled when one of the three smashed a window of the car.

"Out of fear, the victim accelerated his car and hit one of the motorcycles in front of him. The suspect died on the spot while the other two managed to flee," he said.

"Efforts to trace the other two suspects are underway and two investigation papers have been opened; one under Section 302 of the Penal Code and another under Section 393," added ACP Ahmad Shukri.
