When talking about "dragon-associated" destinations, China is one of the places that spring to mind.

So is it true that there is a place in China which was named after the Dragon?

Verdict:

TRUE

Located in the southwestern Fujian Province, the Chinese city of Longyan is also known as "Dragon City."

"Long" translates to dragon, and Longyan means dragon rock. The name emanates from its rock formations which bear the resemblance of dragon scales.

Meanwhile, there are a few other cities that carry the significance of a dragon. For instance, Tianshui in Gansu Province, is also dubbed "the dragon city."

Also known as Longcheng, it is said to be the birthplace of Fuxi.

Fuxi is a fictional creature of legend according to Chinese mythology, with a human head and body that resembled a serpent.

Zhucheng’s dragon nickname comes from the discovery of dinosaur fossils in the city. According to several sources, over 25,000 fossils were found here; hence the nickname come as no surprise.
