QuickCheck: Was a crocodile weighing over a tonne captured under a Sabah home?

IT is one thing to find a dangerous reptile underneath one's home, what more when it is a massive crocodile weighing over a tonne.

It was claimed recently that a massive crocodile weighing over one tonne was found under a person's home at a Lahad Datu water village. Is there any truth to this?

VERDICT:

TRUE

This was in fact confirmed by Lahad Datu Civil Defence Department deputy officer Ahmad Roslan Mohd Kamel, who said that the crocodile captured weighed approximately 1.2 tonnes and was 4.5 metres long.

He said Civil Defence received a call about the crocodile at around 4.38pm on Monday (Dec 11).

“Our men were sent to respond. The crocodile was found to be huge, and our officials had trouble catching it at first due to its size and weight,” he said in a statement.

He added that Civil Defence worked together with the Sabah Wildlife Department to capture the reptile.

Ahmad said it took them three attempts to calm the reptile down before they managed to tie it up and capture it at around 8.50pm.

He added that this is likely to be one of their biggest catches in Lahad Datu this year.
