QuickCheck: Was a teen assaulted and robbed inside an elevator in Johor recently?


ENTERING an elevator may not seem all that scary unless someone is claustrophobic.

A viral video making its rounds on social media however shows that people should be wary of getting into an elevator especially with suspicious characters.

The 32-second video made its rounds depicting a young man being roughed up by a man wearing a helmet in an elevator.

Is there any truth to the video?

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat confirmed receiving a police report on the incident.

He also said a man has been arrested for robbing a teenage victim.

In a statement on Wednesday (Oct 18), ACP Raub said the victim, who is a 14-year-old boy, lodged a police report on Sunday (Oct 15) at around 5.25pm after he was robbed by a helmet-wearing man inside an elevator.

“Following the report, police raided an apartment unit and arrested the suspect. We also seized a mobile phone, a pair of shoes and a pair of jeans from him.

"The suspect's criminal record included three drug offences," he said, adding that the suspect also tested positive for morphine.

Raub Selamat the case was being investigated under Section 392 of the Penal Code for robbery.
