QuickCheck: Is there an airplane sunk in the ocean off Terengganu?

AN AIRPLANE is something that is usually up in the air or on the ground and not underwater. Is it true that an aircraft was deliberately dropped into the ocean off Terengganu?

VERDICT:

TRUE

As it turns out, this is actually true. A Piper PA-31 Navajo light airplane, also known as the Chieftain, was sunk into the ocean near Pulau Lang Tengah.

The sinking of the aircraft – an initiative by PPTD Divers, a club under the Administrative and Diplomatic Service Association – will create an artificial reef for marine life to thrive.

The initiative even earned a place in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) for being the first aircraft reef in Malaysia.

That's not all, the "aircraft reef" is set to become an attraction among divers in the island.
