HONG KONG: Legendary actor Tony Leung Chiu-Wai was awarded an honorary doctorate in humanities by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology on Saturday (Nov 23).

In a series of posts on his official Instagram account, Leung was seen wearing a maroon robe, and a mortarboard as he was pictured seated among the attendees.

Also present during the ceremony was Nvdia co-founder and CEO Jensen Huang, who also received a honorary doctorate.

Huang was seen in a post on actress Carina Lau's official instagram shaking hands with Leung.

Lau is Leung's wife.

Later, addressing the gathering in English, Leung, who never attended university, drew on his experiences as an actor for over 40 years to share his insights, according to South China Morning Post.

Leung, who is famous for his roles in Chungking Express, In the Mood for Love and Happy Together, said he always sought to avoid the influence of ego in his work as he wanted to stay “fresh”.

He also urged people to always strive to improve and pursue what they love, keeping their passion for their work alive.

Huang encouraged Hong Kong’s university students to pursue a career at his company and pledged to maintain the company’s presence in mainland China.

The university also awarded honorary doctorates to Nobel laureate Michael Levitt and American mathematician David Mumford.
