Rival camps protest in Taiwan before January presidential election

TAIPEH: Hundreds of thousands of people took to streets of the port city of Kaohsiung in southern Taiwan to demonstrate for and against Mayor Han Kuo-yu, the main opposition group's presidential candidate.

Han, the candidate for the right-wing China-friendly Nationalist Party (KMT), will run against Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen of the governing centrist Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in presidential elections on Jan 11.
