TOKYO: A court has convicted a former member of the Japanese Red Army terror group of attempted murder and hostage taking in the seizures of embassies in Europe and Asia in the 1970s and sentenced him to life in prison, an official said yesterday.
The Tokyo District Court sentenced former Red Army member Haruo Wako, 56, to life in prison for his role in a 1974 attack on the French Embassy in The Hague and an assault on the US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur in 1975, a court spokesman said on condition of anonymity.
