Sabah ready to face Northeast Monsoon

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah is ready to face the coming Northeast Monsoon season, which will see heavy rainfall, strong winds and rough seas, says Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Arif.

The state Local Government and Housing Minister said that in preparation for this season, coordination with the 25 local authorities across the state had been arranged.

He said the main focus is to ensure that all local authorities are equipped with the knowledge and plans to face potential floods or other disasters during this period.

Arifin added that each district has its own committee, which is handled by the district council and presidents, to coordinate action plans.

He said this after officiating the Ambuyat Festival at the Dewan Seri Wawasan in Membakut on Sunday.

He said matters concerning the construction of permanent evacuation centres, as approved by the Federal Cabinet and expected to start work next year, are also being monitored.
