KOTA KINABALU: Parents and guardians are urged to take matters of registering their children and preparing identification documents for them seriously, says Datuk Rubin Balang.
The state Rural Development Minister said delaying these procedures would cause unnecessary problems for the children in future.
He said without documentation, children would face problems when registering for school, for social aid, hospitals and other important life developments.
“This is why parents must take this matter seriously and make sure to register their children according to their different stages of life accordingly,” he said.
Rubin said this when officiating the Mekar Literacy programme in conjunction with the state level 78th National Registration Day in interior Tenom, Friday (Oct 30).
He also urged local community leaders and village chiefs to play active roles in identifying residents with documentation issues and to be the bridge between villagers and the National Registration Department (NRD).
Speaking about the event, he said the Mekar Literacy Programme is among the important approaches and outreach initiatives to grassroots communities to bring information and registration to those who have trouble accessing the service.
This is one way to reach them efficiently and to bring government services to the people, Rubin added.
