Armizan: Joint effort to stabilise chicken and egg supply in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: The federal and state governments are strengthening coordination efforts to ensure a stable supply of chicken and eggs in Sabah at affordable prices.

Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali (pic) said the coordination covers regulatory aspects of production and distribution, price monitoring and enforcement.

Armizan said the state-level meeting also discussed measures to review the current supply and pricing situation for chicken and eggs, including strengthening related regulations.

He said this after chairing the Coordination Meeting on the Stabilisation of Chicken Meat and Egg Supplies at the state Treasury office here.

Armizan said the roles of the Department of Veterinary Services, Sabah Agriculture Department, Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority, other relevant state-level agencies and the ministry at the federal level need to be aligned according to their respective jurisdictions and responsibilities.

“Such coordination is important so that issues at the production and supply levels can be addressed in tandem with price monitoring and enforcement efforts,” he said.

The minister also said the collaboration will serve as the foundation for a more effective mechanism to address supply and pricing issues through better information-sharing, clearer division of responsibilities and more effective follow-up actions.

He said close cooperation between federal and state governments will continue to be strengthened to ensure the supply of essential goods remains secure and accessible to consumers at reasonable prices.
