CYBER defence was among the areas given greater attention in the review of Malaysia’s Defence White Paper last year, says Adly Zahari.
The Deputy Defence Minister said the document was reviewed every five years to ensure the country’s defence planning remained relevant to evolving regional and global security challenges.
“When we first drew up the Defence White Paper five years ago, cyber defence and our involvement in this new domain were not discussed as extensively.
“We have now incorporated these aspects into the revised document,” he said during the question and answer session yesterday.
Adly added that Malaysia had defence plans extending to 2050 across the maritime, land and air domains, covering asset procurement, defence capabilities and the development of cyber defence capabilities.
On defence procurement, Adly said acquisitions such as the Littoral Mission Ship and FA-50 light combat aircraft from South Korea were progressing according to schedule.
In a separate development, Adly said Malaysia was strengthening maritime patrols and intelligence-sharing with neighbouring countries to keep the Strait of Malacca safe and open amid evolving global security threats.
