KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s projected achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030 has risen to 58%, up from 49% last year and surpassing the global projection of 35%.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the improvement reflected the country’s progress in advancing the SDG agenda, although further efforts were needed to ensure development benefited all Malaysians.
“To me, the SDGs are not merely about numbers and targets but a commitment to ensuring national development brings meaningful change to people’s lives, leaving no one behind or marginalised,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday, Bernama reported.
Earlier, Anwar chaired the National SDG Council 2026 meeting, which reviewed Malaysia’s progress in implementing the goals.
He said the meeting also assessed progress on 10 key SDG priorities directly affecting public well-being, including child malnutrition, mental health, empowerment of persons with disabilities, environmental sustainability, fraud threats and efforts to narrow development gaps between states.
