KUALA LUMPUR: Any specific legislation on equitable development fund allocations for MPs must be reviewed thoroughly, says Datuk Mustapha Sakmud (pic).

The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs) said development fund allocations must take into account the needs and priorities for uplifting constituents as well as the government’s financial position.

"The proposal to enact a specific law on these allocations is a policy affair that must be reviewed comprehensively," he said in a written parliamentary reply on Thursday (Oct 15).

Mustapha added that the government remains committed to ensuring the people's development and wellbeing are always prioritised regardless of their constituency.

"Allocations for public infrastructure projects and programmes that benefit the rakyat are channeled through the government’s mechanisms, based on the needs and priorities of the constituency," it said.

Khoo Poay Tiong (PH-Kota Melaka) had asked if the government was prepared to enact legislation allowing MPs to receive equal funds.
