KOTA KINABALU: Sabah aims to maximise the value of its oil and gas resources, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
“This includes supporting midstream and downstream activities, infrastructure, vendor development, technology, skilled manpower, investment, and associated economic activities,” Hajiji said in a speech read by Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Ewon Benedick on Wednesday (Oct 14).
The text was delivered during the signing of land lease agreements for the Sabah Oil and Gas Terminal (SOGT) and the Sabah-Sarawak Gas Pipeline (SSGP) between the Sabah Economic Development Corporation (Sedco) and PETRONAS.
The deal is estimated to generate RM100mil in income over the next two years, with Sedco targeting nearly RM20mil in direct returns to the state in 2026.
The agreements cover 32.5 hectares for SOGT operations in Kimanis and approximately 260 hectares along a 91km pipeline alignment for the SSGP, facilitating gas transmission from Kimanis to Sipitang.
“Industrial development must go hand in hand with human capital development. Sabahans must be given opportunities to acquire the skills, experience, and exposure needed to build careers in the oil and gas sector, particularly in technical and professional fields,” he said.
