Court 'no' to Najib's bid for stay of execution in RM2.3bil 1MDB case

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court has dismissed Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s application for a stay of execution on his 15-year prison sentence and RM11.38bil fine in his RM2.28bil 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MBD) corruption case.

Justice Noor Ruwena Md Nurdin ruled on Wednesday (Oct 14) that Najib failed to establish the special circumstances required to justify a stay pending his ongoing appeals.

She also ruled that the gravity of the offences and public interest weighed more heavily against granting the application, despite the defence arguments on medical concerns, legal issues and appeal delays.
