Eight kids among 53 suspects nabbed under Ops Pedo


KUALA LUMPUR: Eight juveniles, the youngest just 13 years old, are among 53 individuals detained in Ops Pedo Integrated conducted by the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Comm Datuk M. Kumar said the operation from Sept 14 to 16 identified 92 targets through intelligence and analysis by the Malaysia Internet Crime Against Children (MICAC) Unit.

He said 51 of those detained were men while two were female, ranging in age from 13 to 56.

Comm Kumar said two of the suspects were public servants from educational institutions.

"They are a 24-year-old teacher and a 44-year-old laboratory assistant.

"The cases were unrelated, and they are not from the same school.

"Of the total arrested, eight are children while the remaining 45 are adults. The youngest is a 13-year-old girl," he told a press conference here on Tuesday (Sept 21).

He said 95 items were seized, comprising 90 digital devices such as mobile phones, computers, laptops, tablets, storage devices and routers or modems, as well as five sex toys.

"Initial examinations of the devices found 653,193 digital files, comprising 540,127 child sexual abuse material (CSAM) files and 113,066 adult pornography files," he added.

He said 52 investigation papers were opened following the operation, with 23 taken to court and the remaining 29 still under investigation as of Monday (Sept 21).
