KEPALA BATAS: The Kepala Batas Umno division is launching a voluntary fund to raise RM50mil to support former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, says division chief Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican.
Reezal said the initiative serves as a gesture of appreciation for Najib’s past contributions to the constituency, which included infrastructure projects such as the Penaga mosque, schools in Bertam Putera, and local road upgrades.
He confirmed the division has initially collected RM10,000, with public contributions to remain open until the RM50mil target is met.
“Those who want to help Datuk Seri Najib can contribute. This is voluntary and not compulsory,” the Bertam assemblyman told reporters during the launch of the “Dari Wanita Untuk Wanita” program on Saturday (Sept 19).
Commenting on Najib’s conditional house arrest order, Reezal expressed gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, maintaining that the decision fully aligns with Article 42 of the Federal Constitution.
Reezal dismissed claims that the house arrest order breached the rule of law, noting that Najib has already served four years of his custodial sentence.
“This country is governed by law, and we follow the law. Article 42 empowers the King to grant pardons, reprieves, and respites, and similar forms of clemency have been granted in previous cases,” Reezal said.
