Perak Umno: Najib's pardon in accordance with constitutional provisions

IPOH: The Perak Umno leadership welcomes the pardon granted to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, describing it as a decision that reflects the principles of justice and compassion under the Federal Constitution.

Perak Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said the party was grateful for the pardons board’s decision, which he said was made in accordance with constitutional provisions and due process.

“The judicial process has been respected and carried out, while the power of pardon vested in the Yang di-Pertuan Agong serves as a symbol of wisdom and compassion within the constitutional monarchy system,” he said in a statement on Friday (Sept 18).

Saarani, who is the Perak Mentri Besar, said the development would bring relief to Najib and his family and would be received with gratitude by the wider Umno family nationwide.

He also welcomed Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s initiative to launch a contribution fund to assist Najib in settling the fine imposed on him.

“Umno Perak is prepared to work together to support the initiative as a demonstration of solidarity and togetherness with Datuk Seri Najib,” he said.

Saarani also expressed his hopes for the continued well-being of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and prayed that His Majesty would be granted the strength and wisdom to continue safeguarding the nation and its people.
