KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF) has appointed its immediate past president, Datuk Dr Syed Hussain Syed Husman, as senior advisor for government, media & international engagement.
Syed Hussain completed a six-year term as MEF president from 2020 to 2026 and has been re-elected to the MEF Council for the 2026-2028 term.
"His continued service will enable the federation to draw on his institutional knowledge, established stakeholder relationships and experience in labour relations, government affairs and international employer representation,” said MEF in a statement on Friday (Sept 18).
The appointment reflects the federation's appreciation of the significant role he has played in strengthening its engagement beyond Malaysia, particularly through the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the International Organisation of Employers (IOE) and regional employer organisations.
"It also recognises his sustained involvement in national policy and advisory bodies dealing with labour, wages, skills, social security, qualifications, productivity and occupational safety and health,” it said.
MEF president Nik Mustapha Nik Mohamed said the advisory role would allow the federation to continue benefiting from Syed Hussain’s depth of experience and international network while strengthening continuity between the federation's previous and current leadership terms.
"His appointment is a recognition of that contribution and provides an avenue for him to continue supporting the president, council and federation in strategic engagements with ministries, government agencies and international organisations,” he said.
Syed Hussain said he will support MEF's strategic engagement with ministries, various government agencies, policymakers, regional employer organisations and international labour institutions, drawing on his experience in employer advocacy, labour policy, social dialogue and government relations. - Bernama
