PETALING JAYA: Nine areas around the country recorded unhealthy air quality at 10am on Monday (Sept 14), up from six at the same time a day earlier.
According to the Environment Department's Air Pollutant Index Management System (Apims), Serian in Sarawak recorded the highest Air Pollutant Index (API) reading at 174, followed by Sri Aman at 173 and Johan Setia in Selangor at 158.
Cheras in Kuala Lumpur recorded 153, Nilai in Negri Sembilan 141, Putrajaya 132 and Kuching 128.
In Johor, Pasir Gudang recorded 121 while Larkin registered 115.
The readings also showed unhealthy air quality affecting more parts of Peninsular Malaysia compared with Sunday (Sept 13), when five of the six locations in the unhealthy range were in Sarawak.
At 10am on Sunday, Serian recorded 184, Sri Aman 172, Samarahan and Kuching 156 each, Johan Setia 137 and Sibu 104.
API readings of between zero and 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are categorised as hazardous.
