Singer turns love for Bollywood into lucrative side gig

WHAT began as a childhood fascination with Bollywood tunes sparked by his father, has turned into a lucrative side gig for singer Sharif Zero, Harian Metro reported.

The 36-year-old local entertainer, whose real name is Sharif Kadir Doli Sharif, said he is often sought after to perform Hindi songs at weddings and Bollywood-themed dinners, complementing his other work as an emcee, actor and comedian.

“I am thankful that I can make a living from singing apart from emceeing.

“I sing all the Hindi songs and do not mime or lip-sync.”

Sharif said videos of his Bollywood covers on TikTok and Instagram had received praise from fans in Malaysia and neighbouring Asean countries.

He added that his schedule was filling up with Hindi singing engagements almost every month.

Sharif said his interest in Hindi songs developed as a child when his late father, Doli Sharif, would buy Bollywood music cassettes and listen to them at a neighbour’s house.

He said the first song he learned was from the Bollywood hit film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.

> A mysterious, thunderous boom left residents in Nilai, Negri Sembilan startled and puzzled over its source in the early hours of Sunday, Kosmo! reported.

Resident Zana Zin said the loud boom at about 2am woke her up.

However, Zana said the sound caused no damage or unusual incident at her home.

“I went back to sleep as everything became quiet again. Perhaps my house is quite far from where the sound originated,” she added.

Cahaya Diri, who lives in Seremban, described the sound as unusual and deeper than ordinary thunder.

“If it were normal thunder, the sound would be clearer and easier to recognise.

“But the boom sounded heavier and more thunderous.

“It did resemble the sound of a blast commonly heard from a quarry.”

She added that it only rained much later, which made trying to rationalise the boom sound more bizarre.

She said that residents in Nilai likely heard the sound more clearly as they were closer to where the phenomenon occurred.
