Director faces fresh charges over RM13.4mil in illicit funds

KUALA LUMPUR: An investment company director claimed trial at the Sessions Court here on 10 counts of receiving proceeds from illegal activities totalling RM13.4mil.

Datuk Norliza Tajudin, 54, pleaded not guilty to all the charges after they were read before judge Suzana Hussin here yesterday.

On all 10 counts, Norliza was accused of receiving RM13.4mil in illegal proceeds via cheques and online transfers from Energy Eco Bhd into her personal bank account and that of Aura Emas Trading Sdn Bhd, where she is a director.

The offences were allegedly committed at three banks in Taman Setiawangsa, Wangsa Melawati and Bangsar between Feb 1, 2021 and Feb 2, 2024.

All of the charges were framed under Section 4(1)(b) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.

If convicted, Norliza faces up to 15 years in prison and a fine of not less than five times the sum of the illegal proceeds or RM5mil, whichever is higher.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Qistini Qamarul Abrar requested that the court adopt Norliza’s previous RM100,000 bail for the current case and apply for both cases to be tried jointly.

Judge Suzana allowed both applications.

“As both parties have agreed, the court allows the prosecution’s request to use the previous bail along with its additional conditions pending the disposal of the trial,” she said.

The case is fixed for mention on Oct 29.

On May 11, Norliza and prominent Islamic finance figure Tan Sri Dr Mohd Daud Bakar claimed trial over allegations of criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving RM10.55mil at the same court.
