GEORGE TOWN: There is no leadership rift in PKR, with the party remaining united under its president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, says strategy director Sim Tze Tzin.
He added that there was no leadership dispute within the party, stressing that Anwar remained the party’s sole “captain” and that PKR was focused on strengthening its machinery ahead of the next general election.
“There is no question of PKR having two captains.
“Our captain is the Prime Minister and the party president. I think that is clear within PKR. We have only one captain, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.”
Sim was responding to claims of internal conflict following deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar’s call for the party to remain united and avoid internal disputes.
He was speaking after the announcement of a new facility by a manufacturing company in Penang at Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow’s office in Komtar yesterday.
Sim, who is also Deputy Investment, Trade and Industry Minister, said he had not read Nurul Izzah’s statement in full and therefore did not want to comment on it.
However, he said he had not seen any signs of internal turmoil in PKR, adding that the party leadership remained solid and its core leaders were firmly committed to the party.
Sim said the recent departures of several PKR leaders, including former Subang MP Wong Chen and former deputy president Rafizi Ramli, were expected.
“The party has moved forward and the core team remains intact and continues to work well in the party leadership.”
He said the ongoing PKR national congress also provided a platform for party leaders to hear the views and concerns of delegates.
“Various issues are expected to be raised by delegates following the outcome of the Johor and Negri Sembilan elections.
“The focus now is to address the weaknesses identified and strengthen preparations for the coming general election,” he said.
