Ex-Matrade specialist joins SMG as corporate affairs GM


PETALING JAYA: Former Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) trade specialist Zuhaila Sedek (pic) will join Star Media Group as its new general manager of corporate affairs and sustainability effective today.

She will focus on stakeholder engagement, strategic partnerships, corporate communications and engagement with government agencies and industry stakeholders.

During her tenure at Matrade, she held several leadership positions in international trade promotion, strategic communications and economic diplomacy, including serving as Malaysia’s Trade Commissioner and Economic Counsellor in Frankfurt and Paris.

Among her duties were overseeing trade and economic relations across Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, France, Spain, Portugal and Monaco.

She also led the agency’s initiatives in promoting Malaysian exports, facilitating market access, strengthening bilateral business relationships and supporting companies seeking international expansion opportunities in the West European market.

Zuhaila later served with the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry where she oversaw trade, industry and investment-related ministerial communications.

She was also the communications director during Malaysia’s hosting of Apec 2020.

Among the initiatives she spearheaded at the ministry were the Beyond Nations campaign, the Sustainability Action Values for Exporters (SAVE) programme, Economic Frontliners and Investors Stand by Malaysia.

She also facilitated the ministry’s first Sustainable Development Goals-focused webinar and helped develop capacity-building programmes through collaborations with financial institutions and national awards platforms.

Zuhaila holds a communications and media studies (journalism) degree from Universiti Teknologi Mara and a Master of Business Administration from the Escuela de Negocios Europea de Barcelona.
