JOHOR BARU: A man, who was reported missing by his wife last Wednesday, has been found dead about 100km from his home with his body tied with netting.
His hands and legs were bound with adhesive tape, while there were several injuries to his waist and arms, said Johor deputy police chief Deputy Comm Hoo Chuan Huat.
“The body was also wrapped and tied with netting,” he said in a statement yesterday.
DCP Hoo said police are not ruling out the possibility the killing was linked to a debt though the motive was still under probe.
Following the discovery of the body, he said a team from the Johor Criminal Investigation Department and Batu Pahat district police Criminal Investigation Division arrested three men aged between 26 and 40 in the Batu Pahat area on Monday.
Checks found that two of the suspects had previous records involving criminal and drug- related offences.
Police also seized five mobile phones belonging to them.
The man’s disappearance was reported by his wife at 10.09pm on July 29 in Mutiara Rini, Iskandar Puteri.
DCP Hoo said that police subsequently received information from a member of the public at about 12.30pm on Monday about the discovery of a body in Sungai Tanjung Sembrong near Parit Raja, Batu Pahat.
“The victim was identified by his next-of-kin as the person reported missing, based on the clothing and belongings found with the body,” he said.
DCP Hoo said the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
All three suspects have been remanded for seven days until Aug 10 to facilitate investigations.
