PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds across eight states in Peninsular Malaysia, effective until 3pm on Wednesday (July 29).
In the northern region, the weather alert covers the entire states of Perlis, Kedah and Pulau Pinang. Affected areas in Perak include Kerian, Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Kuala Kangsar, Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Bagan Datuk and Hilir Perak.
On the east coast and highlands, severe weather is expected in Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Pahang.
In the central region, the warning covers coastal districts in Selangor, namely Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Kuala Langat and Sepang.
Further south, the alert extends to several areas in Negeri Sembilan (Seremban, Port Dickson, Kuala Pilah, Rembau and Tampin), the entire state of Melaka, and northern districts in Johor, namely Tangkak and Muar.
MetMalaysia issues these warnings when there are signs indicating a thunderstorm with a rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour that is imminent or expected to occur for more than one hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning that is valid for a period not exceeding six hours for any single release.
The notice was officially issued by the department at 11.40am on Wednesday.
