PORT DICKSON: State authorities must act immediately against anyone found to have exploited race, religion and royalty (3R) sensitivities during the Negri Sembilan election campaign, says caretaker Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.
He warned that any delay risks undermining the dignity of the royal institution.
Aminuddin also expressed disappointment at a recent viral video where an individual claimed that the Negri Sembilan palace, the Mentri Besar and the state government were being controlled by a political party.
“This is extremely upsetting. We know that the royal institution is safeguarded, not only by the Malays but all Malaysians regardless of their backgrounds.
“Immediate action must be taken. We do not want action to be taken only after the polls as this episode tarnishes the integrity and dignity of the royal institution,” he told reporters after attending an event with Negri Sembilan village development and security committee leaders here yesterday.
Aminuddin, who is also the state Pakatan Harapan chairman and contesting the Linggi seat, said certain quarters have played up racial issues even during the early stages of the campaign period.
“The rakyat here are mature and want to know what can be offered instead of racial narratives.
“Malaysia is stable and prosperous. These sentiments have no place in our society except for those who believe this can increase support for their party,” he said.
He added that while some of these parties leverage on these matters, it is only for their personal interests.
Yesterday, the Negri Sembilan palace denied any involvement with political parties contesting the Aug 1 state polls.
In a statement, Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Azizi Mohamad Ali advised candidates to refrain from dragging the monarchy into their election campaigns and speeches.
