PORT DICKSON: From wanting to remove the word “Dickson” from Port Dickson to resolving issues faced by the community, three independents have thrown their hats into the ring in a bid to win over the voters in Negri Sembilan.
In Sri Tanjung, two independents comprising Datuk A. Saravanan and Islah Wahyudi Sainudin filed their nomination papers to contest the seat.

Saravanan said he intends to help the people, saying that he is banking on his experiences as an NGO leader.
“I thought to myself – why not take my efforts further by joining politics? I will make sure the people of Sri Tanjung are taken care of if I am elected,” he said.
Islah Wahyudi chose to contest after his efforts to use bureaucratic channels to voice concerns had failed to bear fruit. He said he wants to remove the word “Dickson” in Port Dickson, due to its colonial links.
“I have also been arrested and had my mobile devices seized and blocked over this. I have even been compounded. I am using my rights as enshrined in the Federal Constitution to contest,” he said.
The others contesting the Sri Tanjung seat are Pakatan Harapan’s Datuk Dr G. Rajasekaran, who is the incumbent, A. Alagan from Barisan Nasional and M. Leevineshwaraan of Bersatu’s associate wing. Rajasekaran won the seat with a 3,996 majority at the 2023 state polls.
Another independent candidate, Teo Seng Lee, in his 60s, will contest the Lukut state seat.
“The main objective is to resolve outstanding issues. The people here are disgruntled and they have also asked me to contest,” he said when met outside the nomination centre yesterday.
Teo is in a three-cornered battle for the seat. The other contenders are incumbent Choo Ken Hwa of Pakatan and Sathes Kumar Nilameham of Perikatan Nasional.
At the previous state polls in 2023, Choo won the seat with a 10,135-vote majority.
