Foreign woman charged with murder after dead baby found in alley

ISKANDAR PUTERI: A foreign woman has been charged with murder after the body of a prematurely born baby was found in a plastic bag dumped in an alley in Bukit Indah here.

Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm M. Kumarasan said the body of the baby was found at 2.39am on July 5.

A 34-year-old local man believed to be the father and a 19-year-old Rohingya woman were arrested in a hotel less than two hours later.

"The woman gave birth in a hotel room, placed the baby in a plastic bag and threw it out the hotel room window on the second floor," he said in a statement on Friday (July 17).

He also said the male suspect has a record of two crimes, including a drug-related offence. Both suspects tested negative for drugs.

He said police have referred the case to the Johor prosecution office and the woman was charged with murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code on Friday (July 17) morning.

ACP Kumarasan added that the male suspect would be entered as a witness in the case.

The woman was charged at the Johor Baru Magistrate's Court and no plea was recorded as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

The court set Sept 18 for next mention and no bail was offered.
