KUALA LUMPUR: Police have applied for an Interpol Red Notice on activist Tamim Dahri, says Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail (pic).
The Home Minister said efforts to locate Tamim are ongoing.
“Checks conducted with the Immigration Department on the suspect’s international travel movements indicate that he is still overseas,” he said in a written parliamentary reply on Tuesday.
Subsequently, Saifuddin Nasution said police had obtained an arrest warrant from the Langkawi Magistrate’s Court on May 17 and have placed him on the blacklist.
“In order to locate and facilitate Tamim’s return to Malaysia, Bukit Aman has applied for the cancellation of his passport and subsequently submitted an application for an Interpol Red Notice on June 8,” he added.
The minister was responding to RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) on efforts by the police and the government to locate and arrest Tamim.
The activist, who was at the forefront of “illegal temples” campaign, was supposed to be charged under Section 295 of the Penal Code on March 17 over his alleged act of damaging a soolam (a sacred Hindu symbol).
