Infant among 260 deported to the Philippines from Sabah on July 15

KOTA KINABALU: A newborn baby girl was among 260 Filipinos deported to Tawi-Tawi, the Philippines, on Wednesday (July 15).

The infant, along with 167 men, 40 women, 30 boys and 23 girls from various immigration depots including in Kota Kinabalu, Papar and Sandakan, were sent back on a commercial vessel that sailed from Lahad Datu Port.

The exercise was part of the Sabah government’s ongoing efforts to reduce undocumented migrants, the state Immigration Department said on Facebook on Thursday (July 16).

Five China nationals were also sent back to their hometowns in Guangzhou, China, earlier this week, it added.

It said that on Friday (July 10), five Pakistani men were sent back to Lahore from the Tawau Immigration Depot.

As of Wednesday, it said, a total of 4,275 foreigners here illegally were deported for various immigration offences this year.

They included 2,838 Filipino nationals, 1,207 Indonesians, 105 Pakistanis, and 89 China nationals who had completed all applicable penalties for their offences prior to deportation, the department added.

It also warned people not to harbour undocumented migrants and to observe their communities for any possible activities involving those here illegally.

They may lodge reports on such matters at https://spab.gov.my or the online inquiry system at https://eapp.imi.gov.my.
