Armed robbers target elderly shopkeeper in Ketengah Jaya

DUNGUN: An elderly shopkeeper faced a terrifying ordeal when three armed men robbed her grocery store in Ketengah Jaya at 1.45pm on Friday (July 10).

Dungun police chief Supt Nik Ab Halim Nik Mat said the 70-year-old woman was alone in her shop when she was confronted by the men, who were armed with a machete and an iron rod.

The suspects allegedly tied her hands and covered her mouth with duct tape before making off with her jewellery, cash, two mobile phones and personal documents, he said, adding that the total loss is estimated at tens of thousands of ringgit.

"The victim did not sustain any injuries in the incident", he told reporters in a statement on Saturday (July 11).

Police are now actively tracking the three suspects, believed to have fled in a grey Proton Iswara. The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for armed gang robbery.

He appealed to anyone with information on the incident to contact the Dungun District Police Headquarters or the nearest police station. – Bernama
