National security now starts at the doorstep

PUTRAJAYA: National security no longer begins at the country’s borders but in every home, school and workplace, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He warned that cyberattacks, online misinformation and rapidly evolving technologies have fundamentally changed how the country must defend itself.

He explained that national security in the digital age requires every citizen, institution and sector to adapt to rapidly evolving technologies and collaborate to protect the nation from emerging cyber and technological threats.

He said this at the National Security Month launch ceremony held together with the National Cyber Security Summit (NCSS) 2026 at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre yesterday.

“Security is now everyone’s responsibility – including families, students and ordinary citizens – because of evolving threats such as cyberattacks and online misinformation.

“The rapid pace of technological change requires government agencies to adopt new ways of thinking instead of relying on conventional approaches.

“A whole-of-nation approach is needed, where ministries, government agencies, the private sector and the public work together rather than operating in isolation.

“Malaysia is strengthening cooperation with countries such as the United States, Turkiye, Australia, Asean members, and especially Thailand on areas including border security, maritime cooperation, cybersecurity, AI and drone technologies,” said the Prime Minister.

At the event, Anwar also launched the National Cryptogra-phy Policy (MyKripto-grafi), the MyKriptografi Action Plan and the AI Systems Cyber-security Framework (AISCF).
